Islam teaches its followers to unite with each other. If this unity broods out of love then it is the best, however, if it is not the case then the followers of Islam have to unite under the influence of rights and obligations that Islam has posed upon them. Thus, one way or another, the followers have to unite and stand as an Ummah in Islam.
In addition to the fact that a single Qibla facing which all the Muslim in the world pray, there is another element that stands as the unity of Muslims, which is the mosque. As Muslims Find Qibla Direction, they similarly head towards mosque to offer prayer in congregation. The lines below discuss the major functions that the mosque performs in Islam. · The first and foremost important function of mosque is that it offers a place of prayer to the Muslims. Being a designated place for prayer, a mosque is someplace towards which a Muslim can always turn when with the intention of prayers. Therefore, regardless of anything, a mosque is always available for prayers. · The second important function of the mosque is that it reminds the Muslims of the Salat timing. In the mosque there is a Moazan. The Moazan performs the function of saying Adhan when it is the time for a particular prayer. Therefore, the mosque in this way helps a Muslim remember the time of prayer and the call of it serves as a trigger motivating a Muslim for going to prayer. · Thirdly, it is in the mosque that Muslims perform prayer with congregation. A Muslim can perform prayer individually at home, however, the hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) have put emphasis on offering Salat with congregation, and mosque is the place where the congregation is conducted and all join in for prayer. · Fourthly, mosque is a symbol of social gathering and well being. It is in the mosque that Muslims gather five times a day and it was in the mosque that people would come to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to ask of His opinion regarding their problems and concerns. The imam in the mosque tries to answer the questions of the Muslims pertaining to the problems they are facing from an Islamic perspective. · Fifthly, mosque is a place of Islamic education. In the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) people would come to mosque for Islamic education. At present times also mosques have been known for being a place where Muslims can go and learn about Quran and Islam. In a nutshell, mosque is not just a place where Muslims go five times a day and offer prayer. Rather it is a representative of Islam and from it a Muslim can find a means of learning more about Islam in addition to uniting with other Muslims.
